Interim Ottawa Police Chief Bell Criticized for Keeping Ottawa Resident Captive with Road Closures

Interim Ottawa Police Chief Steve Bells choice to close certain Ottawa roads has given the “green light’ for the Freedom biker rally protesters to create havoc and essentially penalizes Ottawa residents. Imagine a case where protesters are allowed to act their Freedom convoy counterparts in February which blocked major intersections and shut down the US Border crossings. By shutting down major roads in Ottawa, Ottawa residents are kept captive in their own homes, only to have to deal with protesters who likely will impede and ignore the road closure, even worse, likely set up occupation within each of the roads. What’s the chances that we will see new caravans, sleeping campers and likely more 40ft trucks to support the biker protesters initiatives.

Shame on Interim Ottawa Police Chiefs Steve Bells decision to close the roads, even lawful protesters rights will also be infringed by this move. A growing city such as Ottawa should not close down due to certain protests and I’m assuming that if you were a resident in Ottawa and had a major road close down, you would likely be kept captive in your own neighbourhood over the weekend. What’s the chances that the biker protesters will set up camp within the barricades and boundaries?

There’s likely a high probability that they would probably do so. What’s the chances that these protesters will also intimidate those Ottawa Residents who have vowed to take the city streets back, by any means necessary? Shame on Interim Police Chief Steve Bell’s choice to close the road and penalize the Ottawa residents so that they will have to endure another protest, likely to result in additional road closures.

With that being said, here are some positive things that Interim Police Chief Steve Bell has done. He has vowed to invoke a heavy police presence on the protesters and if they do not leave by Sunday, he will likely resort to his other available means at his disposal. This includes invoking the Emergencies Act once again. Another positive thing Steve Bell has chosen to do is bring additional officers from both the RCMP and OPP should the protesters act unruly, inter alia. It is believed that Interim Police Chief Steve Bell’s nephews and cousin are both Hells Angels from Perth, Ontario and Hamilton, Ontario.

This will mean Interim Police Chief Steve Bell will have some leverage with these criminal types within the protest, however it is questionable if residents of Ottawa can trust this connection. That being his connection to the Hells Angels biker gang, respectively.
